About TESH

If there's a gene for organization, I inherited it.

I love systems, function and elegant home design.  My mother was an accomplished interior designer and it was my greatest joy as a child to organize her fabric samples.  I cannot pass by a floor plan without analyzing the flow.  I love long walks through neighborhoods where I renovate every house in my head.  Sitting in the doctor’s office waiting room, I mentally reorganize it to make it more efficient or visually appealing.  If a parent’s mantra to their child is to follow their passion, then working with clients to design and build homes is exactly what I should be doing.

Why is a lawyer building houses? - The TESH Project Consulting

Why is a lawyer building houses?

The short answer is that I love it and I am good at it. The long answer…

Being a lawyer actually comes in very handy.  Law school teaches you how to think and to break down large concepts into their smaller parts.  To end up with a beautiful home built on time and on budget, you have to break it all down from where to position the house on the lot to what type of door hinges and everything in between.  My lawyer brain does this easily. When I practiced, my specialty was mediation.  While I no longer mediate slip and fall cases, my expertise is helpful when the builder and the architect both have steam coming out of their ears or helping each spouse get what they want in their new home without bludgeoning the other one. It has been suggested that I should advertise my services as a home renovation marriage counselor. There is some truth to that!

How did I get started? - The TESH Project Consulting

How did I get started?

I started renovating, designing and building homes 20 years ago.

As I worked on my own homes and then the homes of my friends and family, it became overwhelmingly obvious that I was leading these projects.  There was a hole in between the builders, architects and designers; I realized that if I did not jump in to keep everyone on the same page, the project started to crumble.  Thus, my role as a Client Representative/Project Manager was born. And I am fortunate to have the opportunity to continue to help wonderful clients build gorgeous homes.

My Background? - The TESH Project Consulting

My Background?

I grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC.  As a child, I spent many hours redecorating my dollhouse and, as a teenager, reorganizing my closet. I attended Brandeis University outside of Boston, majoring in political science and interning at the Cambridge Consumer’s Council, where I fought hard for people who could not fight for themselves.  Which led me to law school at the American University, Washington College of Law, which I enjoyed tremendously. (Think 3 years of the NPR More Perfect podcast!)

Life then brought me to San Antonio, TX.  For the past 25+ years, I planned events and raised money for charity, organized (and reorganized!) parent organizations, built and renovated houses and wrote systems for how to recreate it all, while raising three children, whom I love immensely and immeasurably.

And now I get to do it all: design and build real houses (not dollhouses), advocate for my clients and keep everyone organized.  And while I miss school, there are always podcasts!
